Blogging for all grade levels?

As you all know I am first grade teacher. I am looking for ways to incorporate blogs into my classroom. First grade reading, spelling, and writing could lead to a blog that is not able to be read.

Can you guys help me come up with ideas for using a blog in my classroom. (First graders are 6 turning 7)

Thanks for your help!

  1. Kym,

I found some great articles about blogs for primary grades taking into account your challenges with some not reading. I am going to try to post them to a website and list the links here on the blog.

Some food for thought though, how about if you used the blog as a home school connection? In my first grade class as a child, I told stories to someone to typed them on a big key typewriter, and I read the stories all week. What about if a teacher or parent typed these stories in the blog for the students to read. you could also post spelling word lists, let the parents know about class activities, and the list goes on!

Keep an eye out for the articles.

I also put it on the sidebar under classroom links.

  3. Thanks for the sites!

I have a created a nice Blackboard site for my classroom that parents check often. I have thought about opening up the blog section for questions or a home school connection like you suggested. I am really good at responding to emails at a lighting fast rate. My parents often compliment me for that. I worry about opening up the blog and not checking it like I should.

My idea was to open it up as extra credit story writing for the kids. They could do it at home and I could kind of check it at my leisure. What do you think about that?
